Stand Alone Software
If your browser does not support JAVA (or if your browser
has a tough time with JAVA), then have no fear! You can download one of the
following IRC Clients to access us. Check the Superchat Servers Access list for a
list of servers that can be accessed with one of these programs. The three packages
listed to the left under "IRC Clients" are the most popular IRC clients
available. Please check Shareware sites for others if these do not suit your
needs. Scroll down to see screen captures and detailed walk-thru setups for mIRC.

THE
3 BASIC STEPS
(mIRC Crash Course)
(Reading the instructions that
comes with mIRC is the best thing so you can become better acquainted with the client, but
if you don't want to read the instructions like many many people do, just follow these
three steps).
Because I have had years of
experience with mIRC, I recommend this one in particular for IBM PC Users. I cannot
provide you with screen captures and walk-thrus for pIRCh. Please read the help
files contained within the software package to find out more about the other features
built into mIRC, pIRCh or IRCle. You don't have to be a computer whiz to setup any
of these programs. If you follow the basic steps for mIRC, you should be able to
access us on-line within a few minutes. The other boxes in the mIRC Setup control
panel listed as: Local Info, Options, Identd, and Firewall are generally left as default
unless you have a strange ISP.
STEP
1:After you have
downloaded mIRC and installed it, you will then start it up for the
first time. You will need to go to the mIRC setup, which will look
like this. Under the IRC Servers control tab, you will need to add
your information to the 4 shaded boxes.
Your Full Name, E-Mail Address, Nickname and Alternative Nickname in
case the first one is currently being used. These can be changed
at any time. If you don't feel comfortable giving out your full
name, don't worry about it. We don't care what you put in there
(as long as it isn't offensive).
STEP 2:After you have completed Step 1, go up to the ADD button in the IRC Servers
control tab. You will then fill in the 3 shaded boxes.
Description, IRC Server and Ports. Before you got to the "mIRC Crash
Course" section, there is a list of servers and ports. In the Description
field, put whatever you want in that area to help you easily locate the #bowlers-chat
room. In IRC Server, you will put in the server name located in the section above,
for example:
NewBrunswick.NJ.US.SuperChat.Org
In the ports section, you will put in 6667
If you don't intend to access the
other servers, you may delete any and all of the servers that are already listed and just
add the server where #bowlers-chat resides.
STEP 3:Now you're ready to connect! Click on
the (Connect Button) to
establish your connection to the server.
You
will now be zapped to the mIRC Channels folder window. You will need to add the
#bowlers-chat channel. You may find that there will be a bunch of default channels
listed, just to avoid confusion, you may delete all of the channels from the list and add
#bowlers-chat. In the shaded
box, type in #bowlers-chat and
then click on the Add button. To go to the chat room,
highlight #bowlers-chat and click on Join.
