An operator is clearly marked with an "@" symbol before their nickname  (Goddess or Guardian are bots and they don't count - don't complain to them, they don't talk).  The persons who you would most commonly find with an operator mode are the following people (what their names will look like in operator mode):

@RonC (or @MagicRonC)
@JimD
@Jerry
(@JW or @JerryWeller) (@JW or @JerryWeller)
@Medusa
(@Medusasghost) (@Medusasghost)
@MrsLoco
@ntb
@Will

Important!   Please Read!

We don't mean to scare you and make you think there are weirdoes on the net (there are, but it's a rare occurrence when you actually come across one).  These are some important tips to keep you, your child and other articles in your possession (credit cards, internet account information, etc) safe from cyber-thugs.  Being a former victim of a cyber-stalker, it is very important that you become aware that your personal information is NOT safe unless you can verify that this person is trustworthy of your information.  People can be all too convincing.   If something seems strange (other than miscellaneous babble) and someone is asking for personal or financial information, don't answer their questions.

NEVER give out your personal information to people that you don't know:

  • First and last name.
  • Full home mailing address or place of business address - if a chat person claims he or she is an industry worker, professional bowler, or is offering to send you something for free, verify the information by calling the company DIRECTLY, ask for references - educate yourself.
  • Telephone numbers of any kind.
  • Social Security and Driver's License information - you would not believe how much information you can find out about a person with just these two numbers.
  • Credit card information.
  • Your Internet Service information!  NEVER disclose passwords and userID information for login purposes.  If a person claims they are an administrator of your ISP and they are asking for your password and userID, do not disclose this information - contact your internet service provider immediately.
  • Anything else that can be collected for illegal use.

Hey, Kids! (and parents too)

We enjoy having our youth bowlers in our chat room, they always come up with some of the best questions about bowling and their discussions are fun.  As a parent with two children on the web, this is really really really really important and I cannot express in words how important this is.

Parents: The *BEST* safeguard for children is to have absolute parental supervision while surfing the web.   However, often times, this isn't feasible for parents.     We urge parents to log their children into the chat room and locate an operator right away, let us know that your child will be visiting and it would be nice if you sit and supervise your child while in the chat room too.  The chat room could be an enjoyable place for the whole family to talk about bowling or just talk to other bowlers and such.

Medusasghost (Medusa) is the chat room mommy and usually watches to make sure that everything is kept at an even level - not only for internet safety but also to help promote discussions so the younger users can follow along and contribute without the feeling of being talked over.

What Medusasghost doesn't do:  She is not a babysitter, please don't dump your child into the chat room and walk away, do not expect us to watch your child.

Kids:  Please tell us if you are under the age of 18 so we can make sure that you are going to have a fun time in our chat room.  If you do not understand the stuff on this page, ask your mom or dad to tell you what it is all about.

Virus Prevention and Protection:

DCC file transmissions can be conducted thru IRC servers.  Accept DCC's at your own risk, we are not responsible for any mishaps to your computer system or any type of explicit materials which may be passed along.  Please scan files with the latest virus detecting software, make sure you update your virus software regularly.  If you do not have virus prevention software already, we recommend these two sites:

  • E-Mail address, however..  We recommend that you give out a secondary "free E-Mail" address
    (hotmail, yahoo, etc)
  • First name if you feel comfortable with it, but don't give out a last name or just give a first initial unless you feel comfortable with it.
  • ICQ or Instant Messenger information.
  • PO Box
  • Whatever other information you want to disclose:  pets names, and other trivial things.

Warranty/Guarantee

There are no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied by the administrators, hosts and providers.    #bowlers-chat is "AS-IS" without warranty.  Use of this chat room is "at your own risk".  Please make sure that you fully understand the rules, help, FAQ and acceptable use policies.  We are also not responsible for sexually explicit content which may be passed around from user to user.

Privacy Policy

We respect your privacy.  Certain personal information that you have shared with the Operators is kept in strict confidence (except trivial things that cannot be used against you or reveal your identity: "<insert name here> shot a 300 yesterday," for example).  We also ask that you return this in kind to others who may share personal information with the group.
